Student Entrepreneur Program

Real Businesses. Real Responsibility. Real Learning.

At Gulfside Montessori Christian School in Ocean Springs, our secondary students don’t just learn about economics or business—they practice it. Our Student Entrepreneur Program gives adolescents the opportunity to design, launch, and manage their own micro-businesses as part of their education.

This hands-on experience develops leadership, financial literacy, and creativity in ways that traditional classrooms rarely offer.

Why Entrepreneurship Education Matters

Many students graduate high school without ever learning how money works, how businesses operate, or how to bring an idea to life. Through our Entrepreneur Program, students develop practical skills such as:

  • budgeting and financial planning

  • marketing and branding

  • product design

  • customer communication

  • sales and pricing strategy

  • profit and loss analysis

These experiences prepare students not only for potential business ventures but also for leadership in any career path.

From Idea to Marketplace

Students in the program move through the full entrepreneurial process.

Idea Development

Students identify interests and market opportunities and develop product ideas or service concepts.

Product Design and Creation

Students design and produce goods such as:

  • handmade crafts

  • artwork and prints

  • baked goods

  • woodworking

  • other creative offerings

Business Planning

Students create budgets, estimate costs, and set pricing strategies.

Marketing and Branding

Students design logos, create marketing materials, and learn how to communicate with customers.

Sales and Reflection

Students create and sell their products at market-style events and reflect on their results to improve their businesses.

Learning Through Real Responsibility

The Entrepreneur Program gives students something powerful: authentic responsibility. They must manage resources, collaborate with peers, solve problems, and adapt when challenges arise.

Through this process, students develop:

  • confidence

  • resilience

  • leadership

  • initiative

  • financial literacy

These are skills many adults wish they had learned earlier in life.

A Unique Opportunity on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

Very few schools in Mississippi offer an entrepreneurship program integrated directly into a secondary academic program.

At Gulfside Montessori Christian School, this experience is part of our broader Montessori philosophy—trusting adolescents with meaningful work and real contributions.

Families from across the Mississippi Gulf Coast, including Biloxi and Gulfport, seek out this program because it prepares students for independence and real-world success.

From creating a product to talking with real customers, I saw their confidence and independence increase in ways I never expected.
